Building

Our main building project we are trying to raise funds for this year is to build a high school at San Ignacio. In this barrio we have been able to build a six classroom primary school, which is attended by some 400 plus children. Now we recognize the need for them to have access to further education. As of April 2011, we have the area fenced and the walls started for three classrooms and the latrines. Our aim is to open three classrooms in the 2012 school year which will start in February 2012.

We have some funds set aside from generous donors, nearly enough to finish one classroom. Others are working to raise funds too, including Westfield State College. They built the existing walls this January, and will be returning early 2012 to complete a classroom. Amped for Education are actively participating in this project too.

Using funds from A.T.O.S. Group in the Netherlands this year we have been able to make a lot of improvements in the school of Jose de La Cruz Mena, including roof repairs, new latrines, swings in the playgrounds, and fans in some of the classrooms that had no ventilation.

Weve been able to make improvements in the schoolyard their too with the help of Georgetown University, and Appalachian State College. Plus lots of much needed painting with the help of those groups, Natural Worth Yoga and the Turner/Reale family.

Trying to keep the schools in good repair is a constant ongoing project, and we are always grateful for the help and generosity of visiting groups and our donors.
