Education

Our main project is helping improve education for the children living in rural areas on the outskirts of Granada.

Volunteers spend around 1000 hours weekly working directly with young students. This help is ongoing, and we constantly strive to improve the effectiveness of the help we are able to give.

In 2011 we are trying to bring more computers to the schools, and spend more time with the children having access to these computers. To increase the amount of time we can spend with computers in the schools we need funds for transport, as well as more computers

The graph below shows how much benefit the computers are in helping the children to learn:

With a grant awarded by The Body Shop Foundation we have been able to offer the schools a special course this year on environmental protection and renewable energy. Using a program drawn up by the local teachers, with collaboration of our volunteers the children of grades three and four each received a textbook set out with monthly themes to use throughout the school year, with a special event each month. The highlight will be at the end of the school year when they all visit the Nicaraguan Zoo to learn about the habitat and protection of native animals.
