Field trips

Living in very poor conditions, most of the children who attend the schools where we work have not been further than from their village into the town of Granada, and many, not even that far.

We believe that excursions and field trips bring immeasurable benefit to these children to give them important glimpses of the world outside their immediate neighborhood. They are also a great motivator and make school more exciting.

excursions (45K)

Each year we hold regular excursions for children in grades two, four and six. Grade two go for a picnic on a hilltop which overlooks their villages, Granada and Lake Nicaragua this gives the little ones a view of their world unimagined by them. Grade four children visit the town of Granada for a tour of the historic buildings, the museum, and the treat of a lunch in town. Grade six visit Lake Nicaragua and have a boat tour of the island group, including the fort that was once used to defend Granada from attack by pirate boats and have lunch on one of the islands that make up the beautiful area of Las Isletas.

We have had donations in the past that have allowed us to take children to visit the Volcan Masaya, and when groups visit we encourage them to take the children they are working with on a trip.

All excursions and trips are funded through the generosity of donors, and we collect funds throughout the year to enable this special treat.
